The one thing that can be the absolute hardest in survivorship is finding others who actually understand. When diagnosed, "supporters" come out the woodwork to tell you how strong you are and maybe even wear a pink ribbon. I'm not knocking them. However, they will never get it.

I am fortunate to have an aunt who has been through breast cancer, so she was the person I frequently turned to talk to. However, she is in her 60s. Her kids are all grown. Her problems are very different. I was pregnant with my first child when diagnosed. Going through chemo with a newborn (especially one that was a premie due to being induced 6 weeks early for me to start chemo) wasn't something any survivor I met seemed to understand. Then, there's also the issue of all the hormone problems that result from chemo (and being on Tamoxifen). I'm 34 (32 when diagnosed), so my marital sex-life is important. Hell, my hormones can be straight hell. Menopausal hormones are rough, but try adding them to being post-partum, post-chemo, and taking Tamoxifen--my poor hubby has put up with some shit.

All that is to say, my problems were vastly different than the other survivors I met.

Then, my husband found BoobieQueen Co. It's an organization that ironically is local to me in Augusta, GA (and somehow I'd never heard of it). And, it's entire purpose is to help those who have been through breast cancer and are under the age of 45.

Whitney, the founder, is a two-time survivor that herself realized how few resources there are for young survivors. She has since hosted 10 BreastRest Retreats. I was fortunate enough to be in attendance of the 10th one. I was one of eight women who are in similar shoes. They had younger kids (one also found her lump by thinking it was a clogged milk duct). They have relationship stressors. They face the same mental and physical struggles I do. In addition to the eight retreat attendees, we were also surrounded by a team of women, most who had once been on the retreat themselves.

I am now a Boobie Queen, and my hopes are that Surviving with Snark can help contribute to other young survivors finding their people.
